ProRack is the answer when you want the hanging capacity of slatwall without covering a whole wall in panels. A ProRack is a single heavy-duty rail that mounts across the studs and takes the same hooks, baskets and bins as Proslat slatwall — a strip of storage rather than a wall of it.

ProRack or slatwall?

They are not competitors so much as different scales of the same idea.

Choose ProRack when you need one strong band of hanging storage at working height: a rail above a bench, a run behind the car for yard tools, or a strip in a shed or basement where full panels would be overkill. It is faster to install, costs a fraction of a panelled wall, and you can add a second rail later at a different height.

Choose slatwall panels when you want the whole wall usable at any height, or when the wall finish matters. Panels also cover a damaged or unfinished wall, which a rail does not.

Plenty of garages use both: panels on the main wall, a ProRack rail on the narrow strips beside a door or window where a panel will not fit.

Rail lengths

ProRack comes in 4 ft, 8 ft and 12 ft. Pick the length that spans the studs you want to hit — the rail must be screwed into framing, not just the wall surface, because everything hanging on it loads those screws. For runs longer than 12 ft, rails can be installed end to end.

Hooks and accessories

• S hooks (4 pack) — the general-purpose hook. Cords, hoses, bags, helmets, anything with a loop or handle.
• Double side hooks (4 pack) — two arms per hook, for long items carried across a pair: ladders, shovels, lumber offcuts, folding chairs.
• Tire storage option — brackets to carry a set of seasonal tires on the wall instead of stacked on the floor, where they take a parking space and mark the concrete.
• Ball organizer — the open cage for basketballs, soccer balls and helmets. Works on ProRack and on slatwall.
• Optional shelf — a flat shelf that clips into the rail for things that will not hang.

Common questions

How much weight will a ProRack hold?

The rail itself is steel and very strong; the real limit is the fixings and the framing behind them. Mounted into solid studs it will carry what you are likely to hang on it. Mounted into drywall alone it will not — find the studs.

What height should I mount it?

Put the rail so the bottom of what hangs from it clears your head and the car doors. For most garages that puts the rail somewhere between 5 and 6 ft off the floor. Hold a shovel against the wall and mark where the handle ends before you drill.

Can I mount ProRack on a block or concrete wall?

Yes, with masonry fasteners rated for the load. Do not use plastic plugs.

Do ProRack accessories fit Proslat slatwall?

Yes, in both directions — the groove profile is shared. Hooks bought for a rail move to a panelled wall later without waste.
