Motorized kayak and canoe storage

A boat stored on the garage floor takes the space a car needs, and a boat stored on a manual pulley system takes two people and a lot of rope work every time. A motorized ceiling lift solves both: the hull goes up and comes down at the push of a button, and one person can do it.

Match the system to your fleet

One boat. The GG8220CK single canoe and kayak lift, or the ProSlat single kayak lift rated to 125 lb, covers one hull.

Two boats. The GG8220CK2 is a dual-power system built to raise two hulls together; the ProSlat dual canoe and kayak lift is rated to 220 lb.

Paddle sports and boards. The GG8220CKP is configured for paddle sports with padded support.

A fleet. The ProSlat 4-kayak storage lift is rated to 275 lb for households storing several boats together.

Why hull support matters more than capacity

Most kayaks weigh far less than any of these lifts can raise, so capacity is rarely the constraint — how the hull is carried is. A boat left hanging on two narrow contact points for a whole winter can take a set in the hull, particularly a plastic rotomolded kayak in a warm garage. Padded slings that cradle a wider section of hull spread that load. Where possible, support the boat near its bulkheads rather than at its widest point, and store it deck-down or on its side rather than resting on the hull's flattest surface.

Planning the installation

Measure the length of your longest hull and confirm the lift's strap spacing suits it — a 17 ft touring kayak and a 10 ft recreational boat want different spacing. Check that the raised boat clears your garage door and opener through their full travel, which is the most common oversight. Confirm the ceiling framing above each mounting point can carry the load, and that a power outlet is within reach.
